Entry #2: What weekends are for.

Rest.

In this society's eyes, anyway.  Every society is different in their work ethic, and their socio-trends, and their traditions, but I personally am dedicating this day to relaxing.  I encounter others on a daily basis who can't seem to deter themselves from the hustle and bustle of their work week when they finally reach the weekend.  Even household tasks like vacuuming the rugs or dusting.  Take a rest.  Seriously.  In the long run, you'll realize it can wait until Monday.

So far I have spent my day reading
Zombie Spaceship Wasteland: A Book by Patton Oswalt (which I highly recommend, by the way), eating a bowl of off-brand Raisin Bran and a cup of "Roasted Chicken" 3-minute soup; the kind in the styrofoam cup that you add boiling water to.  I also tried to decide on a playlist to accompany my reading, and so far all I've come up with is a collection of Anamanaguchi (Damn them and their sweet, irresistible chip-tune style rock - also highly recommended).  Now, I'm staring blankly at the glowing screen of my MacBook sifting through this vast amount of unfiltered verbal diarrhea that has suddenly flooded my brain and am doing my best to condense it into a reasonable blog post.  I'm considering either staying in and reading a few more chapters or venturing out into the glossed, semi-gloomy abyss that this day has provided us all with.  Either way, it will not negatively hinder my spirits, so that's a good thing.

In other news: I'm missing the warmth of Spring and I cannot wait for that string of days that I can exist out in the world in flip-flops or even barefoot.  Well, this April is as the saying goes, I guess: Enters in a manner that is something akin to that of a mighty Panthera leo, exits in the hushed fashion of a gentle Agnus... or something like that.

Oh, and also, Happy (Belated) Earth Day and Happy Easter (for those of you that celebrate it, anyways.  And I mean the real Easter, not the commercialized bastardization it has become today.  Perhaps that'd be more apropos for a later post).

One for love.  Love for all.

Vince

Entry #1: A Drowsy tale

Greetings fellow bloggers, subscribers and n00bs!
You are here because you are either:
1. Another blogger
2. A friend/stalker
3. Bored on the interwebs
In any case, this is where you can come to get my updates/rants/insight into the clusterf*** that sometimes is my life.  Since 'Drowsy' closed Sunday, I figured this an opportune time to start up a blog since I currently cannot afford webhosting for my website... more on that in a later post.

For this post, I'll reflect on the show:

The Drowsy Chaperone has been the best theatrical bonding experience I have ever had the privilege of being a part of; the beginning new friendships and the rekindling of old ones.  The cast as a whole was a blast to work with, most of which I have worked with before and a few I have not.  This was the second time I have done a show at this theatre working with this director and both times have been really great experiences.  It was really nice coming into this show because I was asked to do it without audition because they needed to fill the part of one of the gangsters (pictured above) and I was welcomed with open arms.  This was in late January/early February and at that time I was also in a production of Man of La Mancha, which was a heavy project for me on many fronts (most of which I won't get into).  In any case, that ended in late February, and I was happy to then give myself totally over to Drowsy because it was nowhere near as heavy a load to memorize and nowhere near as many headaches and stresses that I suffered with La Mancha.  Anyway, being in Drowsy helped me in many ways.  One: I am much more comfortable with being goofy and silly on stage and Two: It has given me an outlet for camaraderie and to go out and feel like part of the "group," which I think is something we all strive for; acceptance, not to mention social drinking.

This was also the first show I had done where during the entire run (rehearsals, performances, etc.) I was twenty-one, so I was officially able to go out and partake in many more festivities with the rest of the cast.  Upon reflection, I guess in a way I treated this show as a sort of rite of passage for me.  For the record, I never got drunk or was irresponsible with my drinking but even so, the experiences had will not soon be forgotten by any of us.  The show ran three consecutive weekends, and we had cast parties or gatherings after every performance, which was amazing to me because I had not experienced such a close bond within a cast before.  Honestly, everyone involved with this show was great, not to mention the pit orchestra for this show was one of the two best orchestras I have worked with thus far.

This brings me to our game.  Not The Game, mind you.  Spontaneously at the opening of the third weekend, we as a cast created a game amongst ourselves.  The rules were simple: agree on one word we find funny and somehow incorporate it into the show, whether it be onstage within your lines or just whispering it amongst one another on or offstage to crack each other up.  If you haven't guessed by now, this is where some of that "grown-up" language comes into play.  Well, it would, if I felt like sharing them, but I think for my first post I will spare you and your tender sensibilities.  Also, it's very late and I think I have done enough reflecting for tonight.

I apologize for the length of this post, but I hope I have kept your attention and that you will return again to read future posts.  I will hopefully have more engaging topics to wax philosophically about in the near future, I just felt very reflective and nostalgic tonight.

One for love. Love for all.
